In November, members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council met with Eric Bellavance, Maine's Driver Education Program Manager, to give him a screening of SMASHED, with the hopes that it would be approved for driver's ed curriculum statewide. As a follow-up, LYAC gained input from a showing to area health teachers to gain additional feedback.
On December 17, 2007, members of the youth council received a letter from Mr. Bellavance noting that SMASHED "has been approved for use in Maine driver education courses."

On October 29, 2007, the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council premiered their underage drinking awareness film, SMASHED, at the Auburn Flagship Cinema. The film was shown to a "standing room only" crowd and lauded by Lewiston Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert, Sr., and State officials at its conclusion. Coverage by Lewiston Sun Journal

"SMASHED, a mock driving
crash video from an 'interesting perspective,' was professionally
filmed by the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council on August
23rd & 24th - now in editing stages. The group received
a Bureau of Highway Safety grant for Via Vision of Lewiston
to "shoot" their

work, and they also worked closely
with Seth Roberts, Director of MADDOG Entertainment, Lewiston,
in regards to production. Once editing is completed, LYAC
will premiere the video & work with Roy's Driving Academy,
Lewiston, to hopefully gain approval for the video to be utilized
in driving academy curriculum statewide." <intro

On June 18, 2007, LYAC members
were part of an All-America City delegation that was recognized
before the Maine House & Senate. A Legislative Sentiment
was also given to the group as passed by the House, and
U BOOZE U LOOZE was positively highlighted!

On June 8, 2007, members of LYAC
were part of a City of Lewiston delegation who competed for
the title of "All-America City" in Anaheim, California.
Lewiston won the title (10 cities chosen each year), and a
major focus of the City's application and onstage presentation
was about U BOOZE U LOOZE. The UBUL campaign was also a bit
"hit" at the event's Civic Action Fair." |

U BOOZE U LOOZE web site in May. It has a blog, video on UTUBE,
informative links, and updates and pictures relating to the
UBUL campaign. A special focus is a way for youth across the
nation to "sign on" to UBUL & print their own

doing our part and now that the Surgeon General has asked people

Ally Beaucage and Tim Stretton say they've been pressured
time and time again to start drinking, especially at school
dances and sporting events. <more> |
| UBUL, the Lewiston initiative was introduced
Monday at a city hall press conference. Maine Attorney General
Steven Rowe praised it as the first of its kind in Maine,
one he'd like to see replicated throughout the state and country.
He intends to promote it as a pilot program. <more> |
